Castlewellan Forest Park Re-opening
Season 2026 Operating Information
The Castlewellan Caravan Park booking system will re-open on Tuesday 10th February 2026. Please note that bookings are online only.
Important Notice - With the exciting restoration work (new visitor centre, café etc) currently taking place at the Park, please be advised that the campsite may be affected by some construction noise during, generally between the hours of 7:30am and 6pm. Additional Caravan Site available in 2026
The former Forest Service ‘Touring in the Trees’ Caravan Site has moved into the management of Newry Mourne and Down District Council. Renamed ‘Drumbuck Wood’, this site is bookable via the existing Castlewellan page. The details of the site are listed below:
- Secluded site with 19 grassed pitches offering a self-sufficient ‘back to nature’ caravaning experience.
- The site has communal water taps and a sluice but has no access to electricity or washing/toilet facilities. Accordingly, the site is only suitable for vehicles with self-contained washing and toilet facilities. The site is not available for tent bookings.
- The site is accessed from the Bannanstown Road, just off Drumbuck Road – there is no direct vehicular access from within the main Park. The site is an 850m walk from the main caravan park, accessed via a gravel forest path.
- Bookings entitle the user to free parking at the main car park of the Forest Park throughout the duration of their stay. Free main car park access is limited to one vehicle per booking and is only permitted during Park opening hours. Bookings do not entitle the user to use of the amenities at the Main Caravan Park.
- Pitches will be available at a reduced rate to account for the limited amenities.
Caravan Park operating times for 2026 are as follows:
March: Thursday 12th to Tuesday 17th (inclusive) / Friday 20th & Saturday 21st / Friday 27th & Saturday 28th.
April to September: Daily from Thursday 2nd April until Wednesday 30th September (inclusive).
October & November: Thursday 1st, Friday 2nd & Saturday 3rd October / Friday 9th & Saturday 10th October / Friday 16th & Saturday 17th October.
Daily from Friday 23rd October to Saturday 31st October (inclusive).
Caravan Park closes for Season on Sunday 1st Novemeber 2026.
